Why I Created SPED & Thrive

One Classroom. Real Stories. Meaningful Lessons.

July 2026

When I first became a special education teacher, I quickly realized that one of the greatest needs wasn’t just inside the classroom—it was the connection between home and school.

Every day, I have the privilege of teaching incredible children who learn in their own unique ways. I celebrate first words, first friendships, first written names, and milestones that may seem small to others but represent tremendous growth for the families who have waited so patiently to witness them.

Along the way, I’ve also met parents who felt overwhelmed by unfamiliar terminology, unsure of what to expect during an IEP meeting, or hesitant to ask questions because they didn’t want to say the wrong thing. Navigating special education can feel overwhelming, especially when you’re new to the process. My hope is that no family ever feels like they have to walk that journey alone.

As both an educator and a lifelong learner, I believe families deserve more than information—they deserve encouragement, understanding, and practical support.

That’s why I created SPED & Thrive.

SPED & Thrive was built to bridge the gap between home and school by providing trusted resources, practical strategies, and thoughtful reflections from my experiences in special education. While every child and every classroom is unique, one thing remains true: meaningful progress happens when families and schools work together.

Through this journal, I’ll share classroom reflections, practical ideas, and lessons I’ve learned along the way. Every story is shared with student privacy in mind. Identifying details are changed or combined to protect the confidentiality of the children and families I serve while preserving the heart of each lesson.

Whether you’re a parent, caregiver, educator, or someone simply wanting to better understand special education, I hope you’ll find encouragement, knowledge, and practical tools that empower you to support the children in your life.

Thank you for being here. I’m honored to be a small part of your journey, and I hope you’ll continue growing alongside the SPED & Thrive community.

A Final Thought

Every child deserves to be seen, understood, and given the opportunity to thrive.

Thank you for believing in children, asking questions, celebrating progress, and partnering with those who support them. Together, we can create learning environments where every child is valued, every family is heard, and every small step forward is celebrated.

I actually have one suggestion that I think would make your blog stand out from most education websites.

Instead of ending every post with “A Final Thought,” create a signature section called- Seeds of Growth.

For example:

Seeds of Growth

I thought about a quote when painting one day: “Every seed that is sown has the opportunity to live and grow.”
